How does Botox Cosmetic work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines — the repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, smiling and raising the eyebrows over the years. The appropriate muscles are injected with BOTOX® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of the frown lines between your brows, your crow’s feet lines and your forehead lines over time.  Think of a pleated skirt; if you lay a skirt out flat – in 2 weeks the skirt looks the same but after a year (4 Botox treatments), the lines will have begun to soften.

How long is a Botox appointment?

The actual injection process takes a quick 10 minutes. We will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas for you. Then, some patients report that being injected with BOTOX® Cosmetic feels like a pinch.
Treatment requires minimal downtime so you can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave the office.

How soon will I see results with Botox?

While the experience of each patient may differ, it usually takes 3-5 days to see the effects of Botox. For some, it may take up to 2 weeks to realize the final effects.  Results generally last 3-4 months.
Botox relaxes muscles opposite the way that we express them so this can give us a rested and refreshed look.  Botox injections are not limited to the upper face so a downturned mouth, neck bands, strong masseter muscles for jaw clenchers, all of these areas are able to be treated off-label.

When should I start to receive Botox injections?

It’s not your age that determines when BOTOX® Cosmetic is right for you, it’s the severity of your lines. In fact, 64% of plastic surgeons report seeing a rise in cosmetic surgery or injectable treatments for patients in their early 30’s.  Botox has gained much popularity over time to be preventative as it is much easier than correcting a static line.
The truth is everyone’s lines form differently. The timing can be influenced by a combination of factors, from cellular changes that may occur over time, to reduction of collagen, to genetic factors, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment.

Whenever your lines start to bother you or if you are wanting to be preventative in lines on your face, call to schedule a complimentary consultation.

What is Juvederm and what does it do?

Dermal fillers like Juvéderm® are used to treat areas that have lost volume throughout time or are lacking volume due to genetic factors. Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid, which is a sugar that is naturally found in our bodies.  Over time, our faces change.  We lose bony structure due to resorption, collagen and elastin decreases; our muscles change and our facial fat pads shrink.  With these changes we start to see our faces “fall”.  With the variety of Juvederm products to use, the appropriate product is selected to provide support and volume to restore balance and give a much more supported appearance.

How long does Juvederm last?

Longevity depends on the type of filler product selected, the area treated, and the individual patient. Juvederm fillers can last from six months to two years. It’s important for patients to discuss all of their aesthetic goals during their initial consultation to create the best treatment plan.  Most people get maintenance booster treatments annually to keep up the results over time.  Think of filling your tank with gas – don’t wait until you are running on empty for a refill.

Will it be obvious that I had Juvederm?

Results of your Juvederm injections are immediate. It can be as subtle or dramatic as you choose based on the volume of product used. Five syringes fit into a teaspoon and most people use 2-4 syringes each year.  I have administered thousands of aesthetic injections each year with fabulous results. One consideration to note is that while bruising is usually minimal, it is always a potential risk; therefore, it is not wise to get treated immediately before a big event and should be a minimum of 2 weeks between treatment and your important event.

As we age, so many changes are taking place in our faces.  With Juvederm we can maintain and correct these changes subtly over time to give you a refreshed and relaxed look without looking “over-done”.  Juvederm can be used in many places on the face to support the structures that are becoming depleted to re-create the youthful curves and softening of lines. Plus, lips.  Who doesn’t love full lips?!

What is Botox?

Botox is a popular non-surgical, injectable treatment that softens lines and wrinkles with repeated treatments.  Botox is excellent at being preventative but can also be somewhat corrective. With more than 7 million treatments performed last year, Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world.

Fine lines and wrinkles are difficult to see in your skin.  They can serve as a reminder of your age, if not make you appear older than you actually are.  With the loss of elasticity and volume as we grow older, our facial muscles will contract closer and closer to the surface of the skin.  Botox can help relax those muscles so the appearance of fine lines are wrinkles can be softened and your skin can start to remodel itself over time.

what rachel’s clients have to say …

“Rachel is the only person I trust with injectables. She’s knowledgeable not only about beauty and aesthetics, but also about the products and the science behind them. Not to mention, she’s professional and fun to be around. I will continue to see Rachel for my aesthetic needs wherever her journey takes her!”

– Alexa

“My husband was initially opposed to me getting Botox and fillers. He wanted to be supportive, but was worried I’d end up looking like one of those reality TV stars, with duck lips and a frozen face. He was shocked at how natural and refreshed the procedures made me look after I visited Rachel. I have now been seeing her for years and she is the only person I (and my husband) would trust. She is completely honest with me and does not hesitate to tell me “no” if she feels a procedure is unnecessary. She truly wants me to look by best!”

– Debbie

“I have been a client of Rachel’s for 10 years and not once have I thought about visiting anyone else for my fillers and Botox. I have never appeared to have had fillers or Botox; I always have maintained a natural look. To me, that is the most important thing—to look natural and not “done.” The achievement of maintaining a look of pure naturalness relies solely on the technician administering the filler and their expertise. I would have to say Rachel is hands down the best in the state. What she does is “enhance” one’s natural beauty by knowing exactly how much and where to place it. It also can put one’s mind at ease is that Rachel is an RN and her knowledge of the skin and what lies beneath goes far beyond any technician at almost every medspa. She will never administer more filler or Botox then recommended. Even if you ask for more, she will never overdo it. That is why I trust her completely.”

– Amber

“I’ve been seeing Rachel now for a few years, and I’m always amazed that with every visit she makes me feel like I’m her No. 1 priority. No question is too small, she takes the time to explain every detail, and she always ensures I’m comfortable and satisfied with the results. That type of client service is rare. She’s a real pro!”

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF …

I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Wisconsin in Green Bay. I immediately developed a passion for cosmetic nursing and I devoted my career to the skin and cosmetic injectable specialty. I have 12 years of private practice experience treating patients with Botox and Juvederm. Over the years I have acquired numerous advanced level continuing education with injectables and have had one of one training with some of the top plastic surgeons around the world.

WHY CHOOSE A CAREER IN COSMETIC NURSING?

Ever since I was little I’ve been obsessed with science, and as I grew older and continued my education and training as a nurse, I became fascinated by applying the latest in scientific developments to help us all look our personal best.

The fact of the matter is, we all age, but I believe it’s possible to slow down the hands of time – ever so slightly – by taking advantage of services like Botox and fillers. My philosophy is all about creating results that leave my clients looking natural and refreshed – not overdone. When that happens, the results leave you feeling more confident with the reflection you see in the mirror. Helping my clients on that journey is an honor and a privilege that makes every day personally rewarding which is why I absolutely love my job.

WHAT’S THE MOST COMMON QUESTION YOU RECEIVE FROM NEW CLIENTS?

The most common question I receive is, “Will my treatment look natural?” And my answer is always the same, “Yes! It can and it should!” But in order for that to happen, you need to ensure you are working with someone who is skilled and committed to investing in the latest training and technology. That’s a real passion for me. I soak up every opportunity I can to learn and enhance my craft. I consider myself a lifelong student of my trade, which was probably instilled in me growing up with a dad who was a teacher. The field of cosmetic science is always evolving, and I believe that I owe it to myself and my clients to keep current on the latest developments and best practices so I can help my clients achieve the most optimal results possible.

WHO SHOULD COME TO SEE YOU?

Honestly, anyone who has ever been curious about a cosmetic procedure and who wants to look their personal best. One of my favorite parts about my job is consultations. I love meeting new people and helping them understand the benefits they can achieve with established skincare routines and by taking advantage of the latest in medical treatments, like Botox or fillers. There is zero pressure to move forward with a treatment during our first visit – it’s a chance for you to get to know me, for me to get to know you, and most importantly, for you to ask any question that might be giving you hesitation. From there, we’ll work together to develop a plan that’s right for you.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?

I love the outdoors and it’s important for me to stay active. Most recently, I hiked across the Grand Canyon, which is an adventure I’ll never forget. I also spend as much time as possible with my son, who’s now a student at Minnesota State University of Moorhead. And, for more than 20 years, I’ve been a member of the 188th Army Band of the North Dakota National Guard, playing both the flute and piccolo. Representing the men and women who have served or are actively serving our country is incredibly humbling, and it is an experience I know I’ll treasure for the rest of my life.
